യ YA

യ is initial in Dravidian pronouns (യാൻ, or ഞാൻ, യാവൻ); hardly in any verbal root. It changes readily with palatal consonants, as യവനൻ — ചോനകൻ, ജോനകൻ; (ചാമം fr. യാമം); അരയൻ, രായർ fr. രാജാ; ദശ മുഖൻ Tdbh. തെയമുകൻ etc. Initial യ is often found in the form of എ (യൌവനം — എവ്വനം SG.; എമൻ = യമൻ), of ഞ‍ (ഞാൻ fr. യാൻ), and even ന (യുഗം — നുകം).
