Ex: 1. (Place towards which motion is indicated.) 'kóṭṭekku'
chennu (= he went to the fort); 'rájyattinnu' póyi (= he went
to his country).

kizhakke (= to the east of the river); 'víṭṭinnu' angngé vašattu
(= the further side of the house).
3. (Duration and Point of time.) 'názhikakk' pattu kátam óṭum
(= he will run ten leagues in an hour); 'eṭṭu maṇikku' vá
(= come at eight o'clock).
4. (Comparative quantity.) 'neykku' iraṭṭi pál (= twice as
much milk as ghee).
5. (Object of similarity.) 'niṇakku' saman (= equal to thee).
6. (Object of endeavour.) 'chútinnu tunińńu [= he ventured on
the wager (or game)].

8. (Obtainer or Proprietor.) 'avanu' kiṭṭi (= it accrued to him,
i. e. he got it); avannu dr̥avyam uṇṭu (= there is wealth to
him, i. e. he has wealth).
9. (Recipient.) 'avarkku' koṭuttu (= he gave it to them).
10. (Thing recompensed or retaliated.) 'šapichchatinnu' angngó-
ṭṭu šapichchu (= he cursed him in return for his cursing).
11. (Cause.) á 'sangatikku’ kuzhangngi (= they grew weary from
that cause).
12. (Sake.) páram 'parihasichchíṭunnavarkaḷkkŭ' narakam
unṭu (= there is a hell for great mockers).
263. What is to be observed respecting the ablative?
It is only in Sanskrit words that the ablative occurs
as a true case; in Malayálam it is a mere variation
of the locative, i. e. it is the locative,+'ninnu' an ad-
verbial participle.
