AUXILIARY VERBS AFFIXED TO PAST PARTICIPLES.
Nearly all the modern Indian languages have a class of Auxiliary
Verbs of very general signification, which, when added to Verbs of
more confined meaning, serve like the Prepositions* of Compound
* Prefixes f.i. arise, betake etc. abuse, admit etc. or Adverbs f.i. throw off, away
etc. (which are in German called Improper Compound Verbs, because the Adverbi–
al Preposition becomes Postposition in the Imperfect).
