i) By being all but the last put into the form of the
past adverbial participle with the last as a finite verb,
verbal noun etc. as the case may be.

Ex: 'bráhmaṇaré konṭŭ vannŭ Kéraḷattil párppichchu' [=he
brought the brahmins and settled them in Malabar (lit. he,
having brought etc.)]; 'Varuṇané sévichchŭ tapassŭ cheytu'
[=he worshipped Varuṇa and practised austerities (lit. having
worshipped or worshipping, he etc.)

ADJUNCTS.

234. What are adjuncts?

Those words which exhibit the accidents attendant
upon the predicate, subject or object are called ad-
juncts.

Ex: (Pred.) peinkiḷi 'teḷivil' páṭi (= the green parrot chanted
clearly).

(Subj.) 'bhúmipan' Sudaršanan vichárichchu (=king Sudarša-
nan thought).

(Obj:) šástram 'onnŭ' uracheyyám (= I shall repeat one of the
Shastras). In the above 'teḷivil' [=clearly (lit. in or with clear-
ness), 'bhúmipan', and 'onnŭ' are adjuncts.

235. How may adjuncts be divided?

Into those relating to the subject called adjuncts of the
subject, those relating to the predicate called adjuncts
of the predicate, and those relating to the object called
adjuncts of the object.
