അം അ, The first letter in the Malayalim Alphabet, and in herent short vowel. It is frequently used before words beginning with a consonant, for the long ആ, (the inde clinable adjective pronoun that;) and when this is the case, the following consonant is doubled; thus ആ കാ ലം is sometimes written അക്കാലം that time, &c. As a Sanscrit particle it implies privation, prohibition, and diminution. Prefixed to nouns of Sanscrit derivation be ginning with a consonant, it implies negation; thus ശ ക്തൻ a strong man, അശക്തൻ a weak man; ശുദ്ധം cleanness, അശുദ്ധം uncleanness; before words derived from the same language beginning with a vowel, it is used in the same sense, but the അ is changed to അന, as അ and അന്തം (end) form അനന്തം endless eternal. ആദി beginning അനാദി without beginning, &c. അ. A name of VISHNÚ. അംശ, യുടെ s. A share, a part, a portion. അംശം, ത്തിന്റെ. A part, a portion, a share. അംശകം, ത്തിന്റെ. s. 1. A day. 2. a fourth part of a day, or passage of one planet into another. അംശവടി, യുടെ. s. Crosier, or pastoral staff. അംശിക്കുന്നു, ച്ചു, പ്പാൻ. v. a. To separate, to divide, to portion. അംശു, വിന്റെ. s. 1. A ray of light, a sun beam. 2. light, splendor, effulgence. 3. dress, decoration. 4. small, minute.

അക അംശുകം, ത്തിന്റെ. s. 1. Cloth, clothes. 2. fine cloth. 3. an upper garment. 4. white cloth. അംശുമതീ, യുടെ. s. A plant, Hedysarum gangeticum. Adj. 1. Splendid, effulgent. 2. pointed, acuminated. അംശുമൽഫലം, ത്തിന്റെ, s. A banana, or plantain. Musa sapientum. അംശുമാൻ, ന്റെ. s. The sun. അംശുമാലി, യുടെ. s. The sun. അംസം, ത്തിന്റെ. s. The shoulder-blade; the scapula. അംസകൂട, The hump or protuberance between the shoulders of the Indian ox. അംസളൻ, ന്റെ. s. A strong, stout, or robust person. അംസളം, &c. adj. Strong, stout, robust, lusty. അംഹതി, യുടെ. s. 1. A gift, or donation. 2. sickness, disease. അംഹസ്പതി, യുടെ. s. The sun. അംഹസ്സ, ിന്റെ. s. Sin. അകക്കടൽ, ലിന്റെ. s. A gulf; a bay. അകക്കരൾ, ളിന്റെ. s. 1. The understanding. 2. the mind. അകക്കാമ്പ, ിന്റെ. s. The understanding, the intellect, the heart. അകക്കുരുന്ന, ിന്റെ. s. The understanding, the in tellect, the mind. അകചം, ത്തിന്റെ. s. The name of CETU, the dragon's tail or descending node.
