in Galilee, as far as this earliest period of Galilean labours is concerned. Compound—Chain I b,
on the other hand, enters into the fullest details of Christ's work at Capernaum itself, inter—
rupted but by one day's absence at Gadara, and only as the very last point recorded in this
Compound—Chain we hear of a journey of Jesus to Nazareth. Now, is there any probability
that Our Lord immediately after having fixed His abode at Capernaum left that place again in
order to travel through the whole of Galilee, and thus commenced His work at Capernaum only
after one or two such general preaching-tours? Is it not far more likely, that Capernaum itself
was the scene of His very first labours, after He had once chosen it as His "own city" (Matth.
9. I), and that only subsequently He entered upon His Itinerary Ministry throughout Galilee?
Should we, however, still entertain some doubts as to which of the two happened first, there is
