284. How is the past adverbial participle used?

The past adverbial participle is used to indicate 1. sub-
ordinate action, 2. cause, 3. means, 4. condition, 5. manner,
6. to form a compound noun.

Ex: 1. (Subordinate action.) akattu 'chennu' vátil'aṭachchu' vaṭi
'eṭuttu' nanné aṭichchán [=having gone inside, having shut the
door (and) having taken a cudgel, he beat him well].

2. (Cause.) entu 'kaṇṭu' itra chirikkunnu? [=what is it that you
have seen that you laugh so much? (lit. having seen what, etc.?)]

3. (Means.) 'nénnu' chávén [= I shall die by hanging (having
been hanged)].

4. (Condition.) 'kuṭichché' trŭptiyuḷḷu [=if you drink you will
be satisfied (lit. verily having drunk you etc.)]; tán 'chattu'
mín piṭichchál entu lábham? [= if one catches fish and dies
oneself (lit. having died) what use is it?]

5. (Manner.) 'chirichchu' par̥ańńu (=he spoke laughing); chu-
r̥r̥inaṭannu [=he walked (going) round].

6. (To form compounds.) 'aṭichchu-taḷi (=sweeping and sprinkl-
ing); 'tíṇṭi'-kkuḷi (= being defiled and washing); , neṭṭáṭṭam
(=a long play).

285. How is the future adverbial participle used?

The future adverbial participle has the four following
principal uses; 1st. to indicate approaching events;
2nd. results; 3rd. intention; 4th. fitness.
