ഷ occurs but rarely in Mal. words, for origi— nal ഴ (ഊഴം, മുഷിയുക, സാക്ഷ); also for യ (കാരിഷം, മാനുഷം). Original ഷ is changed into ച (ഷഡംഗം, ചടങ്ങു), ഴ (അനിഴം), ട (വിഷഹാരി — പിടാരൻ); or assimilated (ശു കം, ചുക്കു; വിഷ്ണു, വിണ്ണു). ഷഡംഗം šaḍ/?/aṇġam S. (ഷഷ്). 1.
