2nd. It is used with the accusative case of nouns; as,
അവർ ക്രിസ്തുവിനെ കൂടാതെ ഇരിക്കുന്നതാകകൊണ്ട
നശിച്ച പൊകുന്നു.
Because they are without Christ, they are perishing.
3rd. Negative participles are sometimes used in the sense of without;
the participle retaining the meaning of the verb; as,
അവർ നനയാതെ വന്നു.
They came without getting vet.
അവൻ എന്നൊട പറയാതെ പൊയി.
He went away without speaking to me.
അവർ വിചാരിക്കാതെ ഇത ചെയ്തു.
They did this without thinking.
178. പൊലെ. This particle is used,
1st. With the accusative case of nouns; as,
അവർ പൈതങ്ങളെ പൊലെ ആകുന്നു.
They are like children.
അവനെ പൊലെ ആരുള്ളൂ?
Who is like unto him?
ആ രാജാവിനെ പൊലെ മറെറാരുത്തുനുമില്ല.
There is no one like that king.
2nd. Sometimes with other cases of nouns; but in such instances എ
ന്ന must be inserted between the noun and particle; thus,
മറ്റ സകല ജാതികളും എന്ന പൊലെ അവർ ചെയ്തു.
They acted like all other nations.
ശത്രുവിനൊട എന്ന പൊലെ അവൻ എന്നൊട ചെയ്തു.
He acted towards me, as to an enemy.
3rd. As the nominative is generally used for the accusative in the
case of neuter nouns and pronouns, when the nominative of such words
stands for the accusative എന്ന is omitted; as,
അത പൊലെ ചെയ്യെണം.
Do like that.
അത ഒരു വൃക്ഷം പൊലെ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.
It is like a tree.
