If the arms are not in one straight líne We call it a bent
lever (joint-lever).

§ 41. As to the equilibrium of all these different kinds of
levers there is only one law:

Power and resistance are in equilibrium, if the product of
power and its arm is equal to the product of resistance and
its arm. Hence if in the figure 23 (page 53) P = Power and
Q =Resistance. P: Q = B. C.: A C
P. AC = Q. B. C

By a system of levers with unequal arms force may be con
siderably increased. It is obvious that P and Q are in equili
brium, if
