Reminiscences, Prospects and Thanks

(TULMMS) is a linguistic series and it may sound strange that I, being
a businessman, should write this preface. Yet, being the Consul General
of the Republic of India in Stuttgart, I gladly accept to do so. Unexpect
edly I got assistance from Dr Michael von Hauff, Professor of the
Institute for Economics and Economic Policy, University of
Kaiserslautern, who was ready to contribute within TULMMS. He is
deeply involved in scrutinizing the economic relations between both
countries, India and Germany. Along with Dr Martin Buescher, Prof
essor of the Institute for Business Ethics, University of St Gallen,
Switzerland, Michael von Hauffalso stresses the point that the ethic view
of commercial involvement must be developed and strengthened. This
will give new prospects for the future. I am sure that this complex and
holistic view also meets with the aims Gundert was striving for. For
Gundert, besides all his linguistic concern, was very conscious of
economic matters, tracing them in the time of the old Kerala kingdoms
as well as in his time. If he had not been a good economist he could not
have established the Basel Mission in Malabarand, lateron, successfully
run a publishing house in Calw, the Calwer Verlagsverein, for more than
thirty years.
My introduction consists of three parts: First, the Reminiscences of
Dr Hermann Gundert Conference, second, Prospects, taking into ac
count Prof. Dr. Michael von Hauffos article Indo-German Economic
Cooperation. Some Basic Aspects, the main contribution to this volume
