nearly 2 million volumes ie they are not kept in a separate section.
The special South Asian collection at the University Library in
Tuebingen can historically be traced back to the middle of the
nineteenth century and the total holdings today can be estimated at
about 200,000 volumes. We attempt to serve academic oriental
research mainly in the Federal Republic of Germany, but if approached
by interested persons outside of the country, particularly in other
parts of Europe, we try to be of help to them also. We hope that the
very successful acquisition programme of the German Research
Association will continue unabated in its present form, allowing us
to improve and enlarge our unusually good South Asian holdings
year by year.
