in place of any of the Sanskrit dentals having their
inherent vowels suppressed.

Ex: 'malsaram' in Sanskrit 'matsaram',

ulbhavam ,, udbhavam.

Half 'ḷ' may be substituted for half 'zh'.

Ex: appoḷ = appozh (as in appozhékku),

tamiḷ = tamizh.
