149. How are the concessive participles formed?

The first concessive participle is formed by adding the
indeclinable 'um' to the first subjunctive, and the second
concessive is formed by adding 'um' to the second sub-
junctive.

Ex: (First concessive), áyálum (= although I etc. be), koṭut-
tálum (= although I etc. give).

(Second concessive), ákilum (=if I etc. be), íṭukilum (=íṭilum)
koṭukkilum, irikkilum. Such forms as, 'koṭukkuvilum',
'koṭukkúlum', 'irippúlum', 'áyinum' (=ánum), * 'éninum'
(=énum) may also be used. (Their meaning is the same as that
of the forms first given).

THE NEGATIVE MOOD.

150. What is the negative mood?

That form of the verb which denies the action or state
expressed by the verb.

151. How many tenses has the negative mood?

Strictly speaking there is only one, which is (in form)
a future.

Ex: áká (= it will not, does not become), vará (= it will not,
does not come), ariyá, nillá (nilká), irá, iriyá, irikká, naṭakká.

152. Can the negative take the personal affixes?

* Note. There is an old form of the locative affix in 'in'. This
also appears in 'inggane' = inggu + in + e = inggu + il + e;
i. e. the locative of the demonstrative noun inggu. Inggane
literally means 'in this very way'.
