അ
അ a. Found in Tdbh's before initial ര, ല, as
അരക്കർ, അരങ്ങു; — passes easily into the
sound of എ, as ചെടയൻ from ജട, തെചമി =
ദശമി. The final അ has often the character of
a palatal vowel and corresponds with T. ഐ,
C. എ. f. i. തല, തലയിൽ, തലെക്കു; പറ, പ
റെഞ്ഞു.
I. അ a 5. pron. That, yonder. (The corres-
ponding pron. signifies this, as in അതഃ,
അത്ര.) Hence: അവൻ, അത്; അക്കര, അപ്പുറം,
അപ്പോലെ (and അതുപോലെ). Before vowels
അയ്യാൾ that man, അവ്വിടം that place. It is
also used for the second person as അദ്ദേഹം
that person, you (comp. അങ്ങു).
II. അ a S. negative paticle, before vowels അൻ
(G. an — L. in — E. un —) as അഫലം fruit-
less, അനുത്തമം than which there is no better.
അം am 5. (obs.) = അ, അതു; hence അങ്ങു.
അംശം amšam S. 1. Share, part. മൂന്നിൽ ഒർ
അംശം ⅓ TR. അംശപത്രം deed of partition.
2. part of a Talook, formerly called ഹൊ
ബിളി, greater than a തറ, hence അംശം
അധികാരി, അംശം മേനോൻ MR. 3. ema-
nation or incarnation of a god. തന്നുടെ അം
ശങ്ങളാൽ അവതാരങ്ങൾ ചെയ്തു Bhg. 1. ദേ
വന്റെ അംശം=മൂൎത്തി. King Udaya Varma
is called ആദിത്യാംശം KM. അംശാവതരണ
ങ്ങൾ Bhr. 1. 4. hence glory. നരപതി അംശ

അക aγa (C.Tu. അഗെ) and അവ Germ, bud,
shoot; അകെക്ക to bud (T. to burst) f. i.
a grafted tree V1. കാടു വെട്ടിയാൽ അകെ
ച്ചീടും — വാചാ വെട്ടി മുറിച്ചാൽ അകച്ചീടാ PT.
അടവി വെട്ടിയാൽ അകെച്ചീടും Bhr. 3. will

II. അകം aγam T. M. Te. (Tu. അം) 1. Inside;
