The same meaning is also expressed by adding ആയിരുന്നു to the
future tense of a principal verb; thus,
നീ താല്പൎയ്യമുള്ളവനായിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ അവൻ ആ ഉ
ദ്യൊഗത്തിൽ നിന്നെ ആക്കുമായിരുന്നു.
If you had been diligent he would have put you into that office.
5th. എങ്കിൽ, added to any tense of the indicative mood, corresponds
to the English subjunctive mood with if; as,
| ഞാൻ സഹായിക്കുന്നു എങ്കിൽ, | If I help. |
| അവൻ സഹായിച്ചു എങ്കിൽ, | If he helped. |
| അവൻ സഹായിക്കുമെങ്കിൽ, | If he will help. |
INFINITIVE MOOD.
113. The rules, for the formation of this mood, are the same as those
given for the formation of the second person plural of the imperative;
except that instead of adding പ്പിൻ or വിൻ; പ്പാൻ or വാൻ must
be written; as,

114. Besides what has already been written on this subject, (see para
66 and 67.) it is to be observed that the relative and verbal participles
are formed alike.
