mood: its place being supplied in a way that will be exhibited by the
following examples; as,
1st. Ability, or power, is expressed by the help of ആം added to any
verbal noun, or coalescing with a verb, as before explained: it requires
the dative case of a noun; as,
ഇനിക്ക സഹായിക്കയും ആം. I can help.
നിങ്ങൾക്ക പൊകാം. You can go.
This tense is also formed by the help of the verb കഴിയും, which is
the future tense of the verb കഴിയുന്നു, to be able; but used in this sense
it requires the principal verb to be in the infinitive and the noun in the
Dative, as in the former case; thus,
ഇനിക്ക സഹായിപ്പാൻ കഴിയും. I can help.
2nd. Possibility, is denoted by the adverb പക്ഷെ perhaps, placed
at the head of a sentence, or by ആയിരിക്കും, added to the verbal noun,
or to the past or future tense of the principal verb; as,
അവൻ എഴുതുകയായിരിക്കും. Perhaps he is writing.
ആ മരുന്ന അവിടെ ഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും.
Perhaps that medicine is there; or that medicine may be there.
മഴ പെയ്യുമായിരിക്കും, It may rain.
3rd. Duty, or obligation is expressed thus,
| സഹായിക്കെണ്ടതാകുന്നു, 22 സഹായിക്കെണ്ടുന്നതാകുന്നു, സഹായിപ്പാനുള്ളതാകുന്നു, സഹായിക്കെണ്ടുന്നതായിരുന്നു, സഹായിപ്പാനുള്ളതായിരുന്നു, |

4th. Would have is expressed by the help of the particle എനെ;
affixed to past participles; as,
താൻ നല്ലവനായിരുന്നു എങ്കിൽ അവൻ തനിക്ക സ
ഹായിച്ചെനെ.
If you had been good he would have helped you.
ഞാൻ ഇത അറിഞ്ഞു എങ്കിൽ അവനൊട കൂടെ പൊ
യെനെ.
If I had known this I would have gone with him.
