9th. നടുവെ, മദ്ധ്യെ, Between, midst.
10th. സമീപെ, സമീപത്ത, Near, by. These particles come
from the word സമീപം, Nearness.
11th. ചുറ്റും, Around, about.
36. The following particles require the dative case, and in some
instances other cases also; as,
1st. വെണ്ടി, For. This word comes from the defective verb വെ
ണം, to be necessary. As a particle it invariably governs the dative
case, as,
ഇനിക്ക വെണ്ടി, For me.
2nd. അകത്ത, Within. This word comes from the noun അകം,
interior. Used as a particle it corresponds to our preposition within.
3rd ആയ്ക്കൊണ്ട, For, to.
4th. പകരം, Instead of, for. From the verb പകരുന്നു, to pour.
5th. തക്ക, തക്കവണ്ണം, ഒത്ത, ഒത്തവണ്ണം, ഒത്തപൊലെ,
According to, suitable to, so as, and a variety of similar meanings as sug-.
gested by the context.
തക്ക is a word implying suitability.
ഒത്ത is the past participle of the verb ഒക്കുന്നു to be right, or equal.
വണ്ണം is a noun, signifying Size, thickness.
വണ്ണം with the demonstrative ആ prefixed, which is vulgarly spelled
and pronunced ഔ; as ഔവണ്ണം, is used as a particle signifying like,
according to, literally of that size.
വണ്ണം is frequently affixed to pronouns with the same meaning, as,
അതിൻവണ്ണം, According to, in like manner.
The above particles are affixed to nouns in the dative case, to verbal
nouns, and to verbs in the infinitive mood, and future tense.
37. The following particles govern the accusative case of nouns and
pronouns; as,
1st. പറ്റി, About, concerning. This word comes from the verb പറ്റു
ന്നു to stick, to join. Used as a particle it governs the accusative case.
2nd. കുറിച്ച, About, concerning, of.
