206. വെച്ച. This particle has a variety of significations, and is used,
1st. With the nominative case of nouns and pronouns, with എന്ന
placed between the noun and വെച്ച; as,
അത നല്ലത എന്ന വെച്ച അവൻ തിന്നു.
He ate supposing it to be good.
അവൻ എന്റെ സഹൊദരൻ എന്ന വെച്ച അവനൊ
ട ഗുണദൊഷം പറഞ്ഞു.
I advised him as though he had been my brother.
The student will observe not to confound this word used as a particle,
with its use as a verb. When placed after a neuter noun in the nomini-
tive case, as a verb or participle, എന്ന is not required; as,
ഞാൻ രാജാവിന്റെ തിരുമുമ്പാകെ കാഴ്ച വെച്ച എന്റെ
കാൎയ്യം തിരുമനസ്സ അറിയിച്ചു.
I placed my gift before the Rajah, and told him my business.
Used as a verb വെച്ചു sometimes follows a dative; thus,
അവൻ ക്ഷെത്രത്തിൽ പൊയി നാല ചക്രം നടയ്ക്ക
വെച്ച തൊഴുതു.
He went to the temple placed four chuckrums at the door (as an
offering) and bowed (before the Idol.)
2nd. വെച്ച, used as a particle, requires the ablative in ഇൽ; as,
വഴിയിൽ വെച്ച ഞാൻ അവനെ കണ്ടു.
I saw him in the way.
അവൻ തന്റെ വിട്ടിൽ വെച്ച ഒരു വിരുന്ന കഴിച്ചു.
He made a feast in his house.
