189. മെൽ, മെലെ, മീതെ. These particles are used,
1st. With a genitive case; as,
അവന്ന രണ്ടു നഗരങ്ങളുടെ മെൽ അധികാരം ഉണ്ടാ
യി.
He had authority over two cities.
ൟ പാപം എന്റെ മെൽ ഇരിക്കട്ടെ.
Let this sin be upon me.
അവൻ കുന്നിന്മെൽ ഇരിക്കുന്നു.
He is sitting upon the hill.
അവൻ എന്റെ ശത്രുക്കളുടെ മെലെ എന്നെ ഉയൎത്തി.
He raised me above my enemies.
അവന്റെ കട്ടിലിന്റെ മെലെ പല പുഷ്പങ്ങൾ കെട്ടി
തൂക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
There are many flowers tied up and hanging over his bed.
ഇതിന്റെ മീതെ അവർ ഇരുന്നു.
They sat over this.
അത ഭൂമിയുടെ മീതെ പറന്നു.
It flew above the earth.
2nd. With a dative; as,
മെഘത്തിന്ന മെൽ ആ പക്ഷിക്ക പറപ്പാൻ വഹിയ.
That Bird cannot fly above the Clouds.
അവന്റെ തലെക്ക മെലെ ഒരു വിളക്ക തൂക്കിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
A lamp is hanging over his head.
ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്ന മീതെ അവൻ അത വെച്ചു.
He put it over that place.
3rd. In some few instances, the sign of from is affixed to മെൽ; as,
അവൻ ആ വീട്ടിന്റെ മെൽനിന്ന വീണു.
He fell from the top of that house.
മെൽ, is sometimes doubled; the first being put in the dative; as,
മെല്ക്കുമെൽ ദുഃഖം വന്നു.
Sorrow increased more and more.
190. മുമ്പെ, മുമ്പാകെ, മുമ്പിൽ. When reference is made to time,
place, the being in any particular state, or, to the performance of an ac-
tion, മുമ്പെ is generally used, and placed in sentences thus,
ഞാൻ പറഞ്ഞ തീരുന്നതിന്ന മുമ്പെ അവൻ വന്നു.
He came before I had done speaking.
