186. അരികെ, അരികിൽ, are used with all kinds of neuter nouns,
except those denoting animals; as,
അവർ നദിയുടെ അരികെ നിന്നു.
They stood by the river.
അവൻ വെള്ളത്തിന്റെ അരികെ ചെന്നു.
He went to the water.
ആ സ്ഥലത്തിന്റെ അരികിൽ ഒരു വൃക്ഷം പൊലും ന
ടരുത.
You must not plant even a tree, near that place.
These particles sometimes follow a dative; as,
പള്ളിക്ക അരികെ.
Near the church.
അവന്റെ വീട ആ വഴിക്ക അരികെ ആകുന്നു.
His house is near the road.
ഉള്ള is sometimes affixed to these particles; as,
കാട്ടിന്റെ അരികെ ഉള്ള കണ്ടം.
A paddy field near the jungle.
The force of the above English particles, is often rendered into Malaya-
lim by അടുക്കുന്നു, or സമീപത്ത; as,
ആപത്ത തങ്ങൾക്ക അടുത്തിരിക്കുന്നു എന്ന അവർ അ
റിഞ്ഞു.
They knew that distress was near them; or They knew they were
liable to trouble.
അവൻ അടുത്ത ചെന്നു. He went near.
സ്നെഹിതാ താൻ സമീപത്ത ഇരിക്കുന്നുവല്ലൊ ഇനിക്ക
സഹായിക്കെണം.
Friend you are at hand, I pray you to help me.
ആ പട്ടണം സമീപത്ത ആയിരുന്നു എങ്കിലും അവർ
അവിടെ പൊയില്ല.
Although that city was near, they did not go thither.
187. നെരെ. This particle is used,
1st. With the the genitive case; as,
അവൻ അവന്റെ നെരെ യുദ്ധത്തിന്ന വന്നു.
He came against him to fight.
