3rd. In some cases when it is prefixed to nouns, it is used adjectively
with or without the sign of the adjective; as,
അവൻ ശെഷം പട്ടണത്തെ പണിയിച്ചു.
He caused the remainder of the city to be built.
അവൻ ശെഷമുള്ള ആടുകളെ കൊണ്ടുവന്നു.
He brought the other sheep.
183. അടുക്കൽ, which is sometimes declined thus അടുക്കലെക്ക,
is used with the genitive case of masculine and feminine nouns, and with
neuter nouns of things endued with animal life. It is often, though in-
correctly, used with nouns of all kinds.
എന്തിന്ന എന്റെ അടുക്കൽ വരുന്നു. Why do you come to me.
അവൻ അവളുടെ അടുക്കൽ പൊയി. He went to her.
ആ ആനയുടെ അടുക്കൽ പൊകരുത.
Do not go near that Elephant.
രാജാവിന്റെ അടുക്കലെക്കും ദിവാനിജിയുടെ അടുക്ക
ലെക്കും ചെല്ലെണമെന്ന അവൻ അവരൊട കല്പിച്ചു.
He commanded them to go to the Rajah and Dewan.
അവൻ ശിവന്റെ അടുക്കലെക്ക മൂന്നാളുകളെ പറഞ്ഞ
യച്ചു.
He sent three persons unto Shewa.
184. പറ്റിൽ, പക്കൽ, By, with. Signifying the present possession
of any thing. These particles are used indifferently, and require the geni-
tive case; as,
എന്റെ പക്കൽ ഒരു ചക്രം പൊലുമില്ല.
I have not even a Chuckrum with me.
ആ കച്ചവടക്കാരന്റെ പറ്റിൽ നല്ല പഞ്ചസാര ഉണ്ട.
That merchant has good sugar by him.
185. പിന്നാലെ. Is used literally and metaphorically in the sense
of walking behind, or following after, and requires the genitive case; as,
ആ നായ അന്ന്യന്റെ പിന്നാലെ പൊകയില്ല.
That dog will not follow a stranger.
നിന്റെ പിന്നാലെ വരുവാൻ അവൾക്ക മനസ്സില്ല എ
ങ്കിൽ നിൎവാഹമില്ല.
If she will not follow you, it cannot be helped.
എന്റെ പിന്നാലെ നടക്കുന്നവന്ന ഉപകാരം ഉണ്ടാകും.
He that walketh after me, will obtain a benefit.
