7th. It is used to express grief and astonishment; as,
അയ്യൊ ഇനിക്ക ഇപ്രകാരം വന്നിരിക്കുന്നത എന്ത!
O dear, what is this that has thus happened to me !
അയ്യൊ എന്റെ പൈതൽ കിണറ്റിൽ വീണു!
O dear, my child fell into the well!
8th. In many instances this particle is merely expletive, sometimes it
is used thus,
അവന്റെ വിചാരമൊ അത ഭൊഷത്വം തന്നെ.
As to his opinion, lit. thought, it is folly.
നിങ്ങളൊ ഇനിക്ക വിരൊധമായിട്ട അത നിശ്ചയിച്ചു
അവനൊ എന്നെ രക്ഷിപ്പാനായിട്ട അത ചെയ്തു.
As for you, you determined it against me; but as for him, he did it
in order to save me.
163. ഒളും. This particle is used,
1st. With the nominative case of nouns; as,
ഞാൻ അഞ്ച വയസ്സൊളും അവിടെ പാൎത്തു.
I lived there till I was five years of age.
അവൻ മാവെലിക്കരയൊളും പൊയി.
He went as far as Mavelicara.
It is used with the nominative case as a particle of comparison; as,
ൟ പശു ഒരു കുതിരയൊളും ഉണ്ട.
This cow is as big as a horse.
അവനൊളും ദുഷ്ടൻ ആരുമില്ല.
There is no one so wicked as he.
2nd. It is used with a dative in the same way; thus,
ൟ തൂണ ഒരു വൃക്ഷത്തിന്നൊളും പൊക്കം ഉണ്ട.
This pillar is as high as a tree.
ഇത അതിന്നൊളും ഉണ്ട. This is equal to that.
3rd. In a few cases it is used with the ablative; as,
അവന്റെ വീട്ടിലൊളും അവൾ പൊയി.
She went as far as his house.
അവൎക്ക എടുപ്പാൻ കഴിയുന്നെടത്തൊളും അവൎക്ക കൊടു
ക്കെണ.
Give them as much as they can take away.
