ആ വീട്ടിൽ തന്നെ അവൻ പൊയി.
He went into that very house.
ആയാൾ താൻ തന്നെ ആകുന്നു.
You are that very person.
Many of the above English particles when rendered by തന്നെ must
be connected with other words signifying truth, &c. and these must be
placed after the final verb as a separate sentence; thus,
അതിനെ കുറിച്ച നിശ്ചയമുണ്ടൊ? നിശ്ചയം തന്നെ.
Are you sure of it? Very sure.
നാളെ രാജാവ വരും നിശ്ചയം തന്നെ.
It is very certain the king will come to-morrow.
അവൻ പറഞ്ഞത സത്യം തന്നെ.
What he said was really a truth.
When the Malayalim adverbial form is used with, or without തന്നെ,
in any of the above senses, it must be placed before the very; as,
അവൻ വരുമെന്ന നിശ്ചമായിട്ട, or, നിശ്ചയമായിട്ട
തന്നെ കെട്ടു.
I heard for certain that he will come.
താൻ, in Native writings, is sometimes used in the sense of either, or
neither, nor; as,
ഇക്കഥ കെൾക്ക താൻ ഭക്ത്യാ പഠിക്ക താൻ ചെയ്യുന്ന
വൎക്ക മൊക്ഷം വരും നൃണ്ണയം.
Those who either hear, or learn this story, will certainly obtain
heaven.
ഞാൻ പൊക താൻ അവനെ കാണുക താൻ അവനൊട
വല്ലതും സംസാരിക്ക താൻ ഒന്നും തന്നെ ഉണ്ടായില്ല.
I neither went, nor saw him, nor spake to him.
162. ഒ. This particle is used in a variety of ways; as,
1st. It stands as the sign of interrogation; thus,
അവൻ വരുമൊ? Will he come?
അവന്റെ അപ്പനും അവനൊട കൂടെ പൊയൊ?
Did his father also go with him?
അവർ അപ്രകാരം ചെയ്കയില്ലയൊ? Will they not do so?
നിങ്ങൾ അത അറിയുന്നില്ലയൊ? Do you not know that?
