ഞാൻ വളരെ വെള്ളം കുടിച്ചു എന്നാറെ ഇനിക്ക ദീനം
പിടിച്ചു.

154. എന്നാൽ or എന്നാലും. This particle has various acceptations
as,
1st. It serves to connect two antithetical sentences which, without
having any necessary connexion, are brought together merely for the pur-
pose of making each appear in a stronger light; as,
അഹങ്കാരികൾ ലജ്ജിക്കപ്പെടും എന്നാൽ വിനയമുള്ളവർ
സന്തൊഷിക്കയും ചെയ്യും.
The proud shall be ashamed, but the lowly shall rejoice.
നീതിമാൻ പലൎക്കും ഉപകാരം ചെയ്യുന്നു എന്നാൽ നീതി
ഇല്ലാത്തവൻ പലരെയും ഉപദ്രവിക്കുന്നു.
The righteous does good to many, but the unrighteous injures many.
2nd. It connects sentences in the sense of and, then; as,
ഇനിക്ക ഉപദെശിക്കെണമെ എന്നൽ ഞാൻ നിന്റെ
കല്പനകളെ പ്രമാണിക്കും.
Instruct me, and I shall observe thy commands.
എന്നെ വിടുവിക്കെണമെ എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ രക്ഷിക്ക
പ്പെടും.
Deliver me, then I shall be safe.
ൟശ്വരനെന്നെ കുറിച്ച പ്രസാദിക്കുമെന്നാലിനിക്ക ദ
രിദ്ര്യത ശമിക്കും.
Eshwaren will rejoice in me, then my poverty will cease.
3rd. It stands at the head of sentences without any other meaning
than to excite attention to the subject that follows: in this connexion it is
similar to our word now, as it sometimes occurs in the Scriptures; thus
in the beginning of the book of Ruth.
എന്നാൽ ന്യായാധിപതിമാർ ന്യായം നടത്തിയ നാളുക
ളിൽ ഉണ്ടായത എന്തെന്നാൽ.
Now it came to pass in the days when the Judges ruled.
എന്നാൽ ഞാൻ തിരുവനന്തപുരത്തെക്ക പൊകുവാൻ
നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു.
