is added to the principal verb; to give, to happen, to instruct, to help,
and to grant require a dative; as,
അവൻ ഇനിക്ക അത കാട്ടിതന്നു
He showed it me.
ഞാൻ നിനക്ക ൟ പുസ്തകം തരും.
I will give you this book.
അവൻ ആ കുതിരയെ അവന്ന കൊടുത്തു.
He gave him that horse.
ൟ കാൎയ്യങ്ങളൊക്കയും നിന്റെ മഹത്വത്തിന്നും ഞങ്ങ
ളുടെ നന്മെക്കുമായിട്ട സംഭവിക്കയും ചെയ്തു.
All these things happened for thy glory and our good.
അവൻ അവന്ന ഉപദെശിച്ചു.
He instructed him.
അവർ നിനക്ക സഹായിക്കും.
They will assist you.
അവൻ അവന അത നല്കി.
He granted him that.
4th. The verb പൊകുന്നു when signifying to go to any place requires
a dative: but in some instances the ablative ending in ത്ത or ഇൽ is
used; as,
അവൻ കൊച്ചീക്ക പൊകുന്നു.
He is going to Cochin.
അവൾ ആലപ്പുഴെക്ക പൊയി.
She went to Aleppie.
അവർ ചെങ്ങന്നൂൎക്ക പൊകും.
They will go to Chenganoor.
ഞാൻ തിരുവനതപുരത്ത പൊയി.
I went to Trevandrum.
പൈതൽ വീട്ടിൽ പൊകുന്നു.
The child is going home.
5th. The following verbs require their subject to be in the dative case.
