gives to all those words the force of verbs in the same tense as വെണം;
thus,
ഇനിക്ക വായിക്കയും എഴുതുകയും വെണം
I must read and write.
നാം ദൈവത്തെ ബഹുമാനിക്കയും സെവിക്കയും അനു
സരിക്കയും വെണം.
We must honor, serve, and obey God.
വെണം. Abbreviated to എണം coalesces with all kinds of verbs;
thus, ഉന്നു is removed from the present indicative and എണം is affixed
to the remaining letters of the verb. In this case the meaning of the
principal verb and the tense of the auxiliary are united. This form is
used indifferently with the last; as,
താൻ ഇനിക്ക വളരെ ഗുണം ചെയ്തിട്ടുണ്ടല്ലൊ, ഇനിക്ക
സഹായിക്കെണം, or സഹായിക്കയും വെണം.
You have certainly conferred much benefit upon me, you must, or be
pleased to assist me hereafter.
നിങ്ങൾ എന്നൊട കൂടെ പൊരണം.
You must go with me.
2nd. വെണ്ടി. This word is used in the same sense as വെണം
when prefixed to the verbs ഇരിക്കുന്നു, or sometimes വരുന്നു; as,
| Present tense. | വെണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു,—വെണ്ടിവരുന്നു. |
| Past „ | വെണ്ടിയിരുന്നു,—വെണ്ടിവന്നു. |
| Future „ | വെണ്ടിയിരിക്കും,—വെണ്ടിവരും. |
The only use of ഇരിക്കുന്നു and വരുന്നു, in this connection, is to
denote time.
അത ഇനിക്ക വെണ്ടിയിരിക്കുന്നു.
That is necessary for me. I want it.
When either of the above forms unite with other verbs they are abbre-
viated and used like എണം; as,
ഞാൻ കൊച്ചീക്ക പൊകെണ്ടിവന്നു.
I was obliged to go to Cochin.
എല്ലാവരും ക്രിസ്തുവിന്റെ ന്യായാസനത്തിന്റെ മുമ്പാ
കെ നില്ക്കെണ്ടിവരും.
All shall, or must stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
