ഋഷി, യുടെ. s. 1. A Véda or scripture composition. 2. a Rishi or holy sage. There are several orders of these saints, as the Maharishi, Devarishi, Rajarishi, &c. The word og et itself is especially applied to seven ancient sages beginning with VASHISHTA, who hold in mythology an exalted and mysterious rank, and who form in astronomy the asterism of the great bear: the Rishi of a Mantra or mystic prayer in the Vedas is the saint by whom it is supposed to have been remembered or re- cited. 3. a saint or sage in general.

ൠ. The eighth letter or fourth long vowel in the Malaya- lim alphabet, corresponding to the short one preceding, and having the sound of Rū long.

ഌ. The ninth letter or fifth short vowel in the Malayalim alphabet, having the power of Lu in the word lunar.

ൡ. The tenth letter or fifth long vowel in the Malayalim alphabet, corresponding with the preceding short one, and having the sound of Lu long.
There are no words in the Malayalim language which comm- ence with the last three vowels, and they seldom occur as medials.

എ. The 11th letter or sixth short vowel of the Malayalim alphabet, corresponding to the letter E as pronounced in most languages, and is pronounced short or long ac- cording to usage. When used as a short vowel it is pro- nounced like e in end, and when used as a long vowel, like e in they. When connected with consonants, or used as a medial letter, it is represented by (െ) which is called pulli പുള്ളി. This letter is seldom used in Sanscrit as a short vowel, generally as a long one. Words be- ginning with ng as a short vowel are here first given, then those beginning with it as a long vowel.

എക്കിട്ട, ിന്റെ. s. Hiccough. എക്കിട്ടെടുക്കുന്നു, To Hiccough, or hiccup.
എക്കിൾ, ളിന്റെ. s. 1. Hiccough. 2. the stomach. എ ക്കളിക്കുന്നു. To hiccough. എക്കളിൽ വെച്ചു. He put it in the waist.
എക്കുന്നു, ക്കി, വാൻ. v. a. 1. To contract the stomach. 2. to stand on tiptoe to reach any thing.

എങ്ങിനെ. adv. How? in what way? It is the interroga- tive of അങ്ങിനെ and ഇങ്ങിനെ.
എങ്ങിനെയും. adv. However, at all events.
എങ്ങിനെയുള്ള. adj. Of what kind or sort?
എങ്ങിനെ എങ്കിലും. However, whosoever it be, never- theless.
