We have now disposed of nearly the whole of Matthew and Mark. There only remain for investigation Chains E, F and the unconnected event a
in Matthew, as well as A, F, e, f, g, h, i in Mark.

As to Matthew a and Mark A, this calling of the first four disciples is evidently so closely connected with the transfer of Christ's ministry to Galilee,
that we must consider it to have taken place immediately after Our Lord had fixed His abode in Capernaum.

With respect to Matthew E (the Baptist's message from prison etc.), its place must be assigned before Matthew H (John beheaded) and after the raising of
the widow's son at Nain (Luke 7. II–17), since then only Christ was justified in saying: "the dead (Plural) are raised up." Besides, Luke's way of connect-
ing the two events (7. I8) removes every doubt. (See Chapter III.)

Further, as regards Matthew F and the corresponding passage Mark e, f, g, the mysterious notation of time én Sabbátọ deuteroprótọ in Luke 6, I.
will give us a clue where to place it (Chapter III.). Similarly the position of Mark h (the choosing of the twelve) can be ascertained only in connection
the parallel passage Luke 6, I2 (Chapter III.).

Mark i, one of the few incidents recorded by Mark alone, ("His friends go out to lay hold on Him" 3. 20, 2I) we may, though it is apparently unconnected
with any other event, consider to have occurred shortly after the choosing of the twelve (3. I3–I9), when Jesus, returning from the Sermon on the
Mount, reached His home at Capernaum.
