To find the harmony of Matthew A and Mark B, we select as starting-point the healing of Peter's mother-in-law.

Inspecting first the events previous to this incident, we learn from Mark (B), that immediately before entering into Peter's house, Jesus
had healed a Demoniac in the synagogue. Matthew (4) does not mention this latter occurrence, but brings the miracle in Peter's house into
connection with the previous healing of the centurion's servant. The Connective however (8. I4) is so loose that there is ample room between
these two events to insert the healing of the Demoniac. Matthew further informs us, that the meeting with the centurion took place, when Jesus
returned to Capernaum after having healed a leper, which latter incident he records to have happened immediately after the Sermon on the Mount.

As to the transactions subsequent to the healing of Peter's mother-in-law, Chain A of Matthew breaks off with the remark that on the
same evening many others were healed. Mark (B), while confirming this, adds that Jesus early on the next day went to a desert to pray.
Though followed by many, He declined to stay with them, but started on a fresh circuit.

Reduced to order, these various items will form another Compound-Chain (No. 1 a.):
