THE SERMON ON THE MOUNT.

പൎവ്വതപ്രസംഗം.

MATT. V. 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

LUKE VI. 20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, . . .

പൎവ്വതശിഖരത്തിന്മേൽ രാത്രി മുഴുവനും പ്രാൎത്ഥിച്ചു പാൎത്തു രാവിലെ പ
ന്ത്രണ്ടു അപോസ്തലരെ വരിച്ച ശേഷം യേശു ശിഷ്യരുമായി ഹത്തിൻ എന്ന
സമഭൂമിക്ക് ഇറങ്ങി (§ ൮൦) ആശ്രിതരോടും പിഞ്ചെന്ന പുരുഷാരങ്ങളോടും
സ്വൎഗ്ഗരാജ്യത്തിൻ വസ്തുതയെ അറിയിക്കയും ചെയ്തു. അന്നുദിച്ച അനുഗ്ര
ഹവൎഷത്തിന്നു. “യോബെലാണ്ടു” തന്നെ മുങ്കുറിയായിരുന്നു (൩ മോ.൨൫).
അത് എങ്ങിനെ എന്നാൽ ഭൂമിക്ക് ൭ വൎഷം കഴിഞ്ഞ ഉടനെ വിതയും മൂൎച്ചയും
ഇല്ലാതെ മഹാസ്വസ്ഥത കൊണ്ടാടുക അത്രേ ന്യായം. ആ കാലത്തേ അനു
ഭവം ഉടയവൎക്കല്ല സഭെക്കും ദരിദ്രൎക്കും പരദേശികൾക്കും മൃഗങ്ങൾക്കും ആക.
ഏഴേഴു കൊല്ലം ചെന്നാൽ പാപപരിഹാരദിവസം മുതൽ ഒർ അമ്പതാം വ
ൎഷം യോബെലാണ്ടു (കാഹളവൎഷം) തന്നെ. ദൈവം കടം ഇളെച്ചു കൊടുത്ത
തിന്നു മുദ്രയായിട്ടു സഭക്കാരും തമ്മിൽ തമ്മിൽ ഉള്ള കടം മുതലായ ഇടപാട് ഒ
ക്കയും വിട്ടു, അടിമയായി പോയവരെ വിടുതലയാക്കി, വിറ്റുപോയ അവകാ
ശങ്ങളെ പുരാണജന്മികൾക്കു മടക്കികൊടുത്തു, ഇപ്രകാരം താഴ്ചയും വീഴ്ചയും
വന്നു പോയത് എല്ലാം മാറ്റി ദേശംതോറും തിരുസഭയുടെ അവസ്ഥെക്കു പു
തുക്കം വരുത്തേണ്ടതു. ഈ സ്വൎഗ്ഗീയാചാരത്തെ നടത്തുവാൻ രാജപ്രഭു ലേ
വ്യർ മുതലായവരുടെ കുറ്റത്താൽ വളരെ മുടക്കം വന്നു. ബാബലിലേ ഭയം
തട്ടുമ്പോൾ അപ്രകാരം ആചരിപ്പാൻ യരുശലേമിൽ ഭാവിച്ചിട്ടും (യിറ. ൩൪),
പാപവാഴ്ച നിമിത്തം കഴിവുണ്ടായില്ല. ആകയാൽ പ്രവാചകന്മാർ വിചാരി
ച്ചു, ഉടയവനായ യഹോവ താൻ കടങ്ങളെ വീട്ടി ബദ്ധരെ വിട്ടു കൂടിയാരെ
രക്ഷിച്ചു തിരുസഭയെ പുതുക്കി മഹോത്സവവൎഷം വരുത്തേണ്ടത് എന്നു കണ്ട
റിയിച്ചു (യശ. ൬൧. ദാനി. ൨, ൪൪). സ്വൎഗ്ഗരാജ്യം എന്ന ശബ്ദത്തിനു ഈ
പ്രത്യശയാൽ തന്നെ അൎത്ഥം അധികം പ്രകാശിച്ചു വരും (ലൂക്ക. ൪, ൧൮—൨൧).

MATT. V. 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4. Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

LUKE VI. . . . Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. 22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. 23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.
