IV PREFACE.
This "Life of Christ", be it remembered, by no means claims to be a Commentary on the
four Gospels. As to its drift, we advert to the Author's remarks in his Mal. Preface. A per-
sual of the volume, however, will convince, that interpretation of Scripture, though offered in a
form condensed to the utmost, has been paid every attention to. About the extent of exegetical
remarks to be embodied in a work of the kind, opinions may differ. At all events we thought
it desirable to keep the book within such limits as to render it accessible to any intelligent
reader, rather than producing some bulky work which both by its tenor and size would virtually
prove to be beyond the reach of the people.
May this attempt under God's blessing help to further us in the knowledge of His dear Son,
whom to know is life eternal (John xvii. 3).
