develop Malayalam further and maintain it a vivid language within the
multilingual scene of India.
Only through the support given by many individuals was it
possible to carry out the Dr Hermann Gundert Conference in Stuttgart in
1993. The co-ordination was done by Albrecht Frenz, and our credit goes
to him and to all the persons who helped by word and deed, among them
the Keralites coming from India and those living in our country as well
as the German families who were hosts to the Indian and German guests.
Several institutions supported the conference with financial assis
tance and sent representatives to the various functions: several ministries
of the state government, the Indo - German Society, the Federal and
Cooperative Bank (Volksbanken und Raiffeisenbanken) of Wuerttemberg
in GENO – Haus Stuttgart, the Linden-Museum Stuttgart, the
Landesmuseum Stuttgart, the University of Tuebingen along with the
University Library, the Wuerttembergische Landesbibliothek Stuttgart,
the Thyssen Foundation and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation,
the Protestant Church of Wuerttemberg, the Basel Mission, the Associ
tion of Churches and Missions in South Western Germany Stuttgart, the
Association of Protestant Churches and Missions in Germany Hamburg,
the German Bible Society Stuttgart, the Protestant Deanery Stuttgart, the
Catholic Diocese Rottenburg – Stuttgart, and others. Our wish is that all
the efforts undertaken so far may prosper in the future.
