introduction, my thoughts are often with Scaria Zacharia and his
publishing of the new series whieh contains a lot of material. We
also think of those who are involved in the printing, publishing and
selling process. In Germany we were very pleased that so many
Keralites attended the conference and the Dravidian Seminar in May
1993. A lot of new impulses arose through this conference and
within the people involved in it. We are also lucky that the Gundert
family has preserved many old books, pictures and especially the
letters of Gundert which are now kept in the German Literary
Archives/Schiller National Museum Marbach/Neckar. Only through
these letters it was possible to verify most of Gundert's books,
booklets, articles and hints. Without them it would have been
impossible to get the striking insight into Gundert's work and
thought Concerning, eg. ballads and folk literature. We are aware
of one fact: the more you work on Gundert, the more thirsty you feel
for getting new information.
