ചാൽ+അകം. "containing furrows," might
even be the origin of ചാ. for lattice, which
in V1. sounds ചാലെയകം.
ചാലിക്ക čālikka=ചാരിക്ക 1. To mix ingredi-
ents in fluids തേനിൽ ചാലിച്ചു സേവിച്ചു. 2. to
moisten grain for ചേറ്റുവിത.
ചാലി čāli (Tdbh., ശാലി) A certain rice; also
rice in general (as from ചാൽ).
ചാലിക്കൊട്ട (No, ചാലിയ —) a basket of
cocoanut-leaves.
ചാലിയം čāliyam 1.=ചായില്യം f.i. ചാലി
യപ്പുടവ V1. Red cloth worn on shoulders.
2. N. pr. the old fort So. of Beypoor, taken
from the Portugues A. D. 1571— ചാലിയപ്പട
a Māppiḷḷa poem.— ചാലിയം മുതലായ തിരൂര

ചാലിയൻ čāliyaǹ T. M. (C. Te. സാ —from
S. ജാലിക spider?) A weaver (ഇടങ്കർ & വല
ങ്കർ see ഇടം & വലം), also ശാലിയർ TR.; f. ചാ
ലിയത്തി PT.; ചാ'ർ തിരുമുല്ക്കാഴ്ച വെച്ചു, ചക്ക

ചാലിയമുണ്ടു MR. common cloth (opp. Europe
article).
ചാൽ čāl T.M.Te. (C. സാലു line, ജാലു C. Te.
to flow gently) 1. A furrow കൊഴുകൊണ്ടു കീ
റിന ചാലിൻ പേർ സീത KR.— ചാലിടുക to
plough, സ്ഥലം ഉഴുതു ചാലാക്കി MR.; ചാൽ
വിത്തു വിതെക്ക to follow the plough sowing.
2. a channel, ചാല്പുറം, ചാല്വഴി of running
water; for irrigation നീൎച്ചാ.,ആണിചാ.; also
a dry trench or drain, മരങ്ങൾ മലയിൽനിന്നു
ചാല്പണി ചെയ്തുകൊണ്ടുപോരും MC. track for
timber; താണ ചാൽ നോക്കി (huntg.) track.
3. line, direction അച്ചാലൂടെ പോയി, ഇച്ചാ
ലൊടിയെ; കുട്ടിയെ എഴുത്തുപള്ളി മുഴുവനും
രണ്ടു മൂന്നു ചാൽ ഇഴെച്ചു. 4. time രണ്ടു ചാൽ
(ഉഴുക) twice; രണ്ടു മൂന്നു ചാൽ അരെക്ക.

grain, blighted corn, vu. ചായി: ചായിയും പു
ഴുവും. (3 kinds: കരിഞ്ചാ., പച്ചച്ചാ.&വെള്ളച്ചാ.)
2. cankerworm, palmerworm.— ചാഴിവിലക്ക
ceremony & procession to insure the growth of
rice. ചാഴിക്കോൽ So. a stick daubed with a
drug to ward off insects (see പെരുച്ചാഴി). —
എൻകരിഞ്ചാഴിക്കൂട്ടമേ Cherumā's name, given
them by their കോമരക്കാരൻ of Bhadrakāḷi.
3. (aC. ജാളെ moon's ascending node) ഇട
ച്ചാഴി, കൂട്ടച്ചാഴി 2 very unlucky times, chiefly
for sowing (astrol.).
