Many institutions and individuals have provided support for the publication of
Tuebingen University Malayalam Manuscript Series (TULMMS). It gives me
pleasure to acknowledge the permission and support for the publication of
Malayalam manuscripts in the Tuebingen University Library. The director
and his colleagues have always received me as a welcome guest and provided
expert colleagual assistance. Dr George Baumann, director of the Oriental
Section, has been the main source of knowledge and support. Dr Karl Heinz
Gruessner and Dr Gabriele Zeller have been helpful in the preparation of this
series.
The idea for this series was born out of the research work done in the
Tuebingen University Library in preparation of Hermann Gundert Series (6
volumes, 8 books). My research project in Germany at that stage (1990-91) was
made possible by the generous assistance of a research fellowship from AvH
Alexander von Humboldt Foundation.
The preparation for the first three volumes of this series was completed
during my research work in Tuebingen University (1993) on the invitation of
DAAD-German Academic Exchange Programme. The next two volumes
(vol 4 & 5) were finalised during my stay in Tuebingen (1995) thanks to the
financial support of AvH.
Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit (SSUS) granted me spe
cial leave to attend the research work in Germany. For this I am indebted
to Mr. R. Ramachandran Nair IAS, Vice Chancellor of the University.
I am grateful to Dr Herbert Karl, Mayor of Calw, for the grant for
reprographing 12 volumes of Tellicherry Records in Germany.
I acknowledge the encouragement and contribution of Mr Helmut Nanz,
Consul General of India in Stuttgart who enabled me to complete the
